Cambridge University to release a book titled The Meaning of Success: Insights from Wome

Cambridge University planned to release a book called The Meaning of Success: Insights from Women on 5 March 2014.

The book aims to devise steps that need to be taken by the Cambridge University so that women are not disadvantaged in academic appointments and promotions.

The women covered in the book includes world-leading academics to more junior academic and administrative staff. In the book they have talked openly and honestly about their achievements, sacrifices, highs and lows.

The book provides the opportunity to reflect on how success of a woman is recognized and rewarded.

Cambridge is facing an acute shortage of female professors making senior members call for a debate on gender progression within the higher education sector.

Data provided by the Higher Education Statistics Agency reveal that there are four male professors for every female professor in UK universities despite women accounting for 45 percent of the UK academic workforce.
More than 50 Cambridge staff — among them heads of colleges and departments — appeal for a broader and more inclusive approach to academic appointments and promotions so that talented women stand a better chance of progressing to senior positions.
