he popular Carnatic music, Vocalist Rudra Krishna Srikantan, 94 died due to chest congestion in Bangalore on 17 February 2014. His biography named Voice of Generation was released in January 2014 on his birthday.
About Srikantan
• R K Srikantan was born on 14 January 1920 at Hassan district of Karnataka. His father Krishna Sastry was a Sanskrit and Veda scholar and his Brothers also were performers.
• Srikantan was a recipient of Padma Bhushan in 2011. He received the Best Teacher Award by the Bangalore City Corporation.
• He was conferred with many awards like Sangeetha Kala Ratna, Kanaka Purandara Award and the Rajyotsava Award from the Karnataka government.
• He received Honorary Doctorate from Bangalore University. Many awards from different state governments like National Eminence Award by Shanmukhananda Sabha, Mumbai, Sangeetha Sagara by Carnatic Music Association of North America (CMANA), Sapthagiri Sangeetha Vidwanmani by Tyagaraja Trust, Tirupati; Sangeetha Ratnakara by Bhairavi Fine Arts, Cleveland, Swati Puraskar by the Governemnt of Kerala etc.,
