Sri Lankan Parliament on 19 February 2014 passed a law that made it mandatory to put graphic warning on cigarette packs.
The three regulations are presented under the provisions of the National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol Act, which was passed in January 2014 to discourage smoking.
The regulation says that pictorial warnings should be printed on the surface of both front and back portions of every cigarette packet, package or carton containing cigarettes covering 80 percent of the pack, package or cartoon.
The regulations also made it mandatory to specify health warnings on the packs and includes Smoking makes children ill, Smoking causes heart diseases, Smoking causes cancer and Smoking causes sexual impotence mandatory.

The World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control declared graphic warnings on cigarette packs in 2011 both to educate and scare the smokers to give up the habit of smoking.
Following international treaty of WHO, Sri Lanka and Ukraine joined the group of countries that has announced implementation of graphic warning labels to be required on all cigarette packs sold in those countries in 2012.
